How it is to dive in Boracay, in Philippines
Boracay is a beautiful white sand beach in Philippines, surrounded by amazing dive sites – there are many options, just nearby the coast.
With its crystal clear water, great variety of sea life, corals, reefs and ship wrecks, it´s a great place for learning to dive or to do fun dives.

HOW IT IS TO DIVE IN BORACAY
The cool thing about diving in Boracay is the great variety of diving sites. There are plenty of corals and reefs around the island, but there are also small islands, caves and even ship wrecks!
The water is crystal clear, and you have a very good visibility most of the year (it may be a good idea to avoid the typhoon season, from July to October).
Most of the dive sites are just nearby the island, you take about 5-15 minutes by boat to get to most of them.
Usually the boat goes to the dive site, you dive, and it comes back to Boracay. If the dive site is further, then you can do two dives in just one boat trip.
The dives happen many times a day, depending on the dive center – I did my dives at Calypso Diving, they do it at 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 2 PM. I definitely recommend this guys, Calypso is an awesome Dive Center!
And the good thing is that it´s not expensive to dive in Boracay – a fun dive costs 1,400 PHP (U$ 28 – Dec/16) if you have your own equipment, or 1,800 PHP including the equipment.

FOR WHO DOESN´T DIVE YET
If you haven´t done any diving yet, you can do the Open Water course, the basic one to learn to dive. It takes 3-4 days and it includes the theory, the practice in the swimming pool and the dives (4 in total) – check out this post about the Open Water diving course. After you´re certified, you can dive anywhere you want, going up to 18m deep. A great diving school to learn how to dive is Calypso Diving (you can read more about it below).
Other option is to do the Discover Scuba Dive – in one day you learn the basic notions and do a dive. But I´d suggest doing the course, as with it you learn properly how to dive, and after finishing it you´re able to do fun dives anywhere!

WHICH DIVING CENTER TO CHOOSE
There are many diving centers in Boracay – I chose Calypso Diving and I really appreciated it! They are super qualified, a 5 stars PADI diving center!
Calypso is located in Station 3 (a 15-20 minutes’ walk from Station 2, depending on where you are staying), just by the beach. They´re a diving center and also a resort.
They have their own swimming pool, which is great to learn to dive – when you do your Open Water course or the Discover Scuba Dive, you can do the practice lessons at the pool, which is much better than learning at the sea (it´s better to learn all the skills and to get a good practice before doing the dives).
The instructors are very experienced, they teach you everything in details and you get lots of practice in the swimming pool, which makes you feel very confident when you do your first dive.
A cool thing is that Calypso offers you free shower, shampoo, soap and clean towels, perfect for when you come back from your dive! Also, you can relax enjoying the resort facilities, which is not a bad idea at all! You can enjoy the amazing Boracay sunset at the bar, just by the beach!
