How it is to learn to dive in Boracay, Philippines

Do you love the sea? Whenever you can you travel to the beach? If so, why not to learn to dive, so that you can explore even better the beaches all over the world?
You can do a diving course in many places, but if you have the opportunity to choose, Boracay, in Philippines, is a great option for that! It´s known as one of the most beautiful beaches in Philippines, and there are plenty of dive sites just around the island.
I did my Open Water Diving Course there, with Calypso Diving, and it was one of the best experiences of my life!

HOW IS THE DIVING COURSE
My Open Water was with Calypso Diving, a 5 stars PADI dive resort. The course includes theory and practice, and takes 3-4 days.
The theory is divided in 5 chapters – you receive a PADI book when you subscribe, and you watch 5 videos that explain you all you need to know to start diving. You can decide how to do this part – in only one day, or you may split it in two days (the videos take lot of time to be watched).
While you watch the videos you can already answer the questionnaires in the book, and your instructor will check if they are correct. All these exercises are very important to understand the theory and to be able to pass the final “exam” – 50 questions about everything you´ve learned. Btw, this exam you can do at any time during your course.
I started the practice in the second day – the cool thing about Calypso Diving is that they are one of the only dive centers that have their own swimming pool, which is perfect for learning and practicing the diving skills.
As I had plenty of time in Boracay, I slip my pool practice in two days, but you can do this part in just one day.
After I finished the pool practice and after being approved in the final exam \o/, it was finally time to start scuba diving!

MANDATORY DIVES
When you do your Open Water course, you have to do 4 dives, in which your instructor is gonna ask you to practice all the skills you´ve learned.
The first dive is quite chilled, focused in the adaptation to diving in the sea – in this one you have to do just some basic skills.
The second and third dives in when you actually have to do all the skills that you practiced in the swimming pool, so that the instructor can see how confident and apt are you to dive.
Last but not least, you have your final dive of the course. This one was more relaxed, almost a fun dive, perfect for enjoying and watching the sea life of beautiful Boracay!
After you finish the Open Water course you´re ready to dive until 18m deep. Awesome, isn´t it?
Btw, you receive your certification (a PADI card) at home, they send it to you via mail.

WHERE TO LEARN TO DIVE IN BORACAY
Boracay is a diving destination, there are many dive centers available in the island.
I did my diving course with Calypso Diving and I highly recommend it! It´s a 5 Stars PADI Dive Center, with a very experienced staff, from different parts of the World. Also, they are super cool guys!

As they have their own swimming pool, it´s very good to learn to dive with them, as it helps a lot to be able to train the practical skills in the pool, instead of straight away in the sea.
After the dives we could have a shower there and even borrow a clean towel. We would sit in Calypso Resort pub by the beach and enjoy a beer after the dives, watching the fantastic Boracay sunset! Such a great experience!
