Sandy beaches and wildlife viewing on the Southern-East tip of Africa
Port Elizabeth is known as the Friendly City. It´s located in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, and it´s where most of the Garden Route tours finish, before heading back to Cape Town.
The city may not be one of the most beautiful South African cities, but it´s worth a visit. It´s a good spot to be for whom wants to do a game drive in Addo National Park, it has beautiful beaches and it´s just nearby Jeffreys Bay, a surfers paradise in South Africa.

THINGS TO DO IN PORT ELIZABETH
– Game drive in Addo National Park: Addo is the third biggest park in South Africa, and it´s known for the crowds of elephants – they have more than 600 ellies over there! Even though it´s less popular than Kruger, it´s a good place for doing a game drive – the park is beautiful, huge, and it even has the Big Five!

– Sandy Beaches: there are 40km of golden beaches and coastline in PE, which are known for the watersports, such as surfing, SUP or windsurfing. There are plenty of good beaches to relax, enjoy the warm waters and watch the sunset, such as the Blue Flag Kings Beach, the popular Hobie Beach and the beautiful Sardinia Bay. – Jeffreys Bay: Jbay, the surfers paradise in South Africa, is located nearby PE, about 80km. It´s totally worth a visit, for who wants to enjoy the perfect waves or just learn to surf. You can find more about Jbay in this other post here.

GETTING THERE
Port Elizabeth is located in the Eastern Cape, about 800km from Cape Town, 80km from Jeffreys Bay and 70Km from Addo Park.
You can get there driving, in case you rent a car, or you can also finish there a tour in the Garden Route.
In case you want to go by bus, you can take the GreyHound or Intercape, or you have the option of taking the hop-on hop-off one, the Baz Bus.
Taking the Baz Bus is the most practical way to travel in South Africa, especially if you´re backpacking or traveling by yourself. They pick you up at your hostel and drop you off at the door of your next destination. Also, you meet lots of backpackers on the way! It´s a really cool way of traveling in the country. I went to PE via Baz Bus, leaving from Jeffreys Bay. It was a short but very good trip, and very practical!

SLEEPING
A good option of hostel in PE is Island Vibe Backpackers. It has a great structure for relaxing and meeting people, with its nice swimming pool, barbecue area, pool table and even a Jacuzzi!
Another cool thing about the place is that it has a spacious self-catering kitchen, where you can cook your own meals. Also, they have a big screen TV room and wifi that works in the whole hostel.
The rooms and dorms are comfy, ensuite and have a big area – I really liked that the dorms have proper beds instead of bunk beds, it´s much nicer. The dorms start from 170 rands, and the rooms, from 550 rands (Oct/16). The hostel also has family rooms and self-catering apartments.
