How the Maasais, the main tribe of Kenya, live
There are more than 40 different tribes in Kenya, and the most know in undoubtedly the Maasais. They live close to the Tanzania border, in a semi nomad style, and they manage to keep their lifestyle until nowadays.

The Maasais are a tribe known as formed by fierce warriors, that nowadays live basically breeding cattle, and from tourism. They still follow rituals of manhood – when boys are around 14 years old, they are circumcised and go to live by themselves at the forest for some years, until they´re ready to get married and to build a family. Unfortunately the female genital mutilation is still quite common among them.
Their way of dressing is peculiar: the men usually a blanket around the body, and the ladies were huge necklaces, and many kinds of jewelry.
It´s very interesting to visit the village to learn about their culture, their way of living and their history. There are different villages and the visit may change from one to another.
At the village that I visited, one of the Maasais was the guide, he´s the one who told us about how they leave and showed us around.

The visit is also lots of fun – the Maasais received us with a welcome dance, and put us to dance and to sing as well. It started with the men’s dance, and afterwards, it was the ladies turn.
The Maasai guide showed us how their houses are built with wood, leaves, grass and cow dam, and also showed one house from inside. It´s interesting how they build it with tiny windows, because of the wind, and how they reserve a space for the calf inside the house, to keep it separated from the cow and guarantee that there´ll be milk on the next day. Btw, who build the houses are the women.
They also showed us how to make fire using pieces of wood, and finished the tour in a market where they sell art crafts. All in all I really enjoyed the visit, except for them being very pushy at the market, trying to make you buy something.

HOW TO VISIT IT
To visit a Masai Village you have to go to the Masai Mara Park or to Amboseli Park, that´s where they live. The entrance for village costs 20 U$ (or 2.000 Schillings), and the visit lasts about half an hour.
