There are many options of hostels, hotels and guest houses in Arusha. I stayed at a brand new hostel called Villa Poa and I really enjoyed the place. It´s a big antique house, with a huge garden to chill, and a very friendly staff.

WHY IT´S A GOOD HOSTEL
The hostel Villa Poa is in an antique house, very beautiful and with lots of space. The common area and the rooms are very big. They are brand new, it opened in September 2016.
The atmosphere of the hostel is great, the guests usually chill and talk at the sitting room or at the balcony outside. It´s a very good place for meeting people.
The garden is the highlight – beautiful, perfect to chill out, with couches and tables. It´s also a good place for sleeping – they offer tents to rent there.
There´s a guest´s kitchen, so you can cook you meal, save some money and maybe even invite the other guests to join you!
A cool thing is that they have a honesty bar – you can help yourself at the fridge, getting beers, soda drinks and water, and just write down your name at the door, and pay it when you checkout.
The staff is super friendly – Lucy, the cook, loves to talk to you and to share recipes, and Ayubo is a very cool guy. Greg, the owner, is always around, talking to you and helping you with whatever you need.
Apart from the hostel, they also have a travel agency, Greg Adventures, that organizes tours around Arusha, such as Safaris and Hikes to Kilimanjaro. It´s very reliable and it´s easy to book the tours through them while you´re at the hostel. I did a safari to Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater with Greg Adventures – you can read more about it here.
ROOMS, DORMS AND BREAKFAST
The hostel has comfy and big rooms for 2 or 4 people, with shared bathroom (one of them has a private one). The dorms are also big, for 6 people, with bunk beds. All the beds and bunk beds have mosquito nets.
Another good option they offer to shoestring travelers are the tents – you can rent one tent and sleep at the garden for a very good price.
The breakfast is included, it has tea, coffee, fruits, toasts, butter, jam and everyday something different, like omelet, pancake, sweet potatoes… Very good!

LOCATION
It´s located outside the town, but you can easily get there in 10 minutes by dalla dalla (and very cheap!). Also, when you arrive at the city, they offer to pick you up at the bus station or at the airport.
