Great option of hostel at the Sani Pass, in Southern Drakensberg
If you into nature and hikes, you shouldn´t miss the Southern Drakensberg area in a trip to South Africa!
To visit the area you can stay at Underberg, the biggest town of the region, or at the Sani Pass. I chose the second, and stayed at Sani Lodge Backcpackers, a great hostel!

WHY IT´S A GOOD HOSTEL
Sani Lodge Backpackers is an awesome hostel, perfect for chilling. It´s located in a beautiful area, surrounded by mountains, isolated from the cities. It´s a perfect place for relaxing!
It´s also a great place to hike at the mountains, to cycle around and to visit the famous Sani Pass, the zig zag dirty road that connects Kwazulu-Natal to Lesotho. You can book a tour with the hostel´s tour company, Drakensberg Adventures.
The hostel is isolated, away from the big cities, and that´s definitely part of its charm. It has a swimming pool, a cozy area with comfy couches and a fire place, and also two guests kitchens.
Bloggers tip: don´t forget to go to the market before going to the hostel if you´re planning to use the kitchen, there aren´t any shops nearby the hostel.
They have a very good restaurant, that serves delicious dishes all day long. The dinner has to be booked in advance (it costs 110 rands – Aug/16), and there are two options of breakfast (from 60 to 80 rands).
Bloggers tip: a cool thing is that they offer free fresh milk every day, at the guests fridge. Also, they have a cute guest herb garden.
They also sell local farm products, such as delicious cheese, yogurt and jam, and art crafts made by the locals.

DORMS AND ROOMS
The dorms at Sani Lodge Backpackers are for 4 people – a bit small, with two bunk beds, but still comfy, with a heater and plenty of blankets to keep you warm at night. It has lockers and shared bathrooms.
The hostel also has private rooms and chalets, ideal for families. The prices at the dorms start at 150 rands, and the room´s price, at 430 rands for two people (Oct/16).
WHERE IS THE HOSTEL?
It´s situated at the Sani Pass, in Southern Drakensberg. It´s very practical to visit the Sani Pass being there at the hostel. Lesotho is only 16km away from it.
